To provide access to quality health care services throughout Nevada.

Miles for Smiles is available in Elko County and surrounding rural areas.

Overview: Miles for Smiles, sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation and other supporters, began operations in Las Vegas in 1998 to help children obtain oral health care. The program added an additional bus in 2004. In 2005 the Ronald McDonald bus arrived in Elko, and Nevada Health Centers, Inc. assumed operations of the program. Miles for Smiles uses treatment, education, prevention and advocacy to address the oral health epidemic.

Target Population:

Las Vegas: The Miles for Smiles bus in Las Vegas offer services to everyone and have a special program for Senior Citizens.

Elko: The Miles for Smiles bus in Elko was donated to NVHC by the Ronald McDonald Charities and offers dental care to children age 18 and younger.

Services provided: Restorative and preventive care, exams, cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatments, extractions, x-rays, oral health education, fillings.

Staffing: Each Miles for Smiles bus is fully staffed with a dentist, dental assistants and office assistants. Eligibility workers are available to assist with enrollment in Nevada Check-Up or Medicaid.
