About the company [Return to Job Listings]
Nevada Health Centers employs more than 323 people and although there are miles between our medical and dental centers, we like to think of ourselves as a family. The Administrative staff works hard to help everyone stay connected through frequent visits, e-mail, video conferencing, and telephone services. Medical Center employees in similar geographic areas gather together for trainings, company picnics and Holiday parties.
The state of Nevada is as diverse as its people and consists of two main urban centers and 109,800 square miles of rural area. The urban area of Clark County, (Las Vegas) is located in southern Nevada and is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. NVHC operates small neighborhood medical centers in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas including a Health Care for the Homeless Program, School Based Health Centers, an OB/GYN Center, a mobile mammography van and our Miles For Smiles Dental Vans. Las Vegas boasts moderate winter temperatures, quality entertainment, a university and a convenient airport. One of our two administrative offices is located in Las Vegas. Two of our rural medical centers are located approximately 100 miles to the north of Las Vegas in Beatty and Amargosa. Both of these towns border Death Valley National Park where the beauty of the natural surroundings is remarkable and endless vistas are open for exploration.
The other urban area of Nevada is located in the north-western part of the state and is home to Reno and Carson City. The Nevada Health Centers northern administration office is located in Carson City as is one of our larger medical centers, Sierra Family Health Center. Carson City is at the base of the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and is about a 40 minute drive to the world class "Lake Tahoe." Recreational activities including skiing, biking, snow shoeing, boating, sailing, hiking and other outdoor sports are prevalent in this area. About a hundred miles North West from Carson City is the town of Gerlach. It is a small community not far from Pyramid Lake and adjacent to the Black Rock Desert where thousands gather every Labor Day for the "Burning Man Festival". Our generally quiet community health center in Gerlach comes to life as it provides medical care to this overnight community during the week long festivities.
Traveling east along highway 80 towards northeastern Nevada you will find Carlin and Crescent Valley. These are ranching and mining towns where two of our small rural health centers are located. The northeastern part of Nevada is home to three of our medical centers located in Elko, Wendover and Jackpot. Our first dental site is also located in Elko, as is one of our Miles for Smiles vans. These areas are considered to be high desert with mountainous regions nearby. Those who love the outdoors are attracted to this area for its superior fishing, hunting, and hiking appeal. Winters are cool and snow is usually present in the mountains; summer temperatures are generally warm to moderate.
Highway 50 is known as the loneliest highway in the world and stretches for miles from one side of the state to the other. Austin and Eureka can be found between stretches of open land both high desert and mountainous along highway 50. Both of these towns were founded due to the mining industry. Nevada Health Centers operates a health center in each location.
All told, NVHC has 29 medical centers, 1 dental center, a mobile Mammography Project, a Miles for Smiles mobile dental program, with three buses and 7 WIC clinics. Nevada Health Centers can accommodate employees who love the night life and hustle and bustle of big cities as well as those who prefer quiet small town atmospheres where rural life is a bit slower and calmer.
